European Commission fines AliExpress €550 million for counterfeit goods

The European Commission has today issued a fine of €550 million against the Chinese e-commerce giant AliExpress for failing to "diligently assess and mitigate risks relating to the sale of illegal, unsafe or counterfeit products", according to the official press release. The company was found to be breaching its obligations under the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA mandates that online platforms like AliExpress take measures to review potentially illegal products, and AliExpress apparently "overestimated the effectiveness of its system in detecting and removing illegal products"....

Samsung unveils tandem OLED display for laptops that can reach 1,600 nits peak brightness

A couple of weeks ago, VESA introduced a new top-level certification for displays called DisplayHDR True Black 1400, which increases the brightness requirement by 40% compared to the previous top standard (you guessed it, it’s up to 1,400 nits now). AT&T is raising prices next month, leaked document reveals

AT&T is apparently planning yet another price hike in the near future. Starting on August 16, customers on copper and fiber internet plans established between June 2024 and July 2025 will see their monthly bills increase by $5. The same hike will be applied to customers on the $15 per month Copper Plan for speeds up to 50Mbps, grandfathered in this May. Qualcomm is working on a new chipset with the model number SM4875, and details about it have now been leaked.
