Weekly poll results: the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro are too expensive, but a price cut can fix that

Predictably, the €100 price hike on the Xiaomi 17T series upset many voters in last week’s poll. However, Xiaomi did make some good choices too. The Xiaomi 17T is smaller than its predecessor and its Pro sibling – it has a 6.59” display versus 6.83” on the 15T and 17T Pro. Barely anyone complained about the smaller size, so, well done Xiaomi. The big battery (6,500mAh) inside the phone certainly helps. The capable 50MP 5x/115mm periscope also proved to be a popular change among voters. And while the Dimensity 8500 Ultra can’t fight flagship-grade silicon, it is just the right chipset to...

Fastest mobile chipsets ranked: compare smartphone processor performance

The gap between smartphone chips in 2026 is absurd. The fastest chip we’ve tested is roughly 15 times more powerful than the slowest one still found in modern smartphones. And yet both can run essentially the same apps, games and operating systems. Mobile silicon has become wildly diverse. Of course, raw performance isn’t everything. Software optimization, thermal management, storage speed and app behavior all play a huge role in how fast a phone actually feels day to day. But when it comes to demanding workloads, there’s still no substitute for brute computational power. So we decided...

OpenAI will voluntarily comply with Trump's new AI reviews order

OpenAI's head of countries, George Osborne, said that it will voluntarily comply with President Trump's new AI executive order. The order, signed by Trump on Tuesday, requests (not orders) access to the latest AI models 30 days before their release. The order was originally drafted to require companies to submit their AI models 90 days before public release. But public pushback and Trump's own publicly-admitted doubts made the change. OpenAI will submit its next-gen AI models to participate in a benchmarking process to assess “advanced cyber capabilities of AI models and determine...

The new AI Siri will require a waitlist to try, new report claims

On Monday, June 8, Apple will unveil iOS 27, which is widely rumored to contain the revamped AI-infused Siri powered by Google's Gemini models. This has been a very long time coming, with the company first announcing an AI Siri back in June of 2024. That has seen delay after delay, but it's now finally (almost) here. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new Siri will be labeled as a beta at first, and will require you to join a waitlist in order to try it. Now it's unclear whether this waitlist will function only during the iOS 27 beta period, or will also be extended even after iOS...
